The Science of Protection

SigShieldTM recognizes that different applications require different degrees of protection. This is why SigShieldTM offers different types of protective apparel in a diverse range and for a large number of applications.

At SigShieldTM we are completely aware that working environments, conditions & infections against which we are dealing with vary, its important to choose the correct protective clothing based on several factors, laminated fabrics are heavy and non breathable thus they aren't always the most appropriate fabric option for personal protective clothing.

That is why SigShieldTM uses the latest technology in fabrics and apparel construction to engineer protective apparel considering the nature of the work environment, heat stress on the body due to physical exertion and most importantly the breathability of the fabric.

Breathability of the fabric is an extremely important criteria in choosing the right product as a heavy non breathable protective coverall will inhibit the natural evaporative cooling from the body which will lead to increased heat stress and could lead to hyperthermia, fatigue and exhaustion.

Our range of products ensure user comfort while providing an acceptable level of protection and this is essential to enhance productivity levels of the user.

The Different types of fabrics in use by Sigshield are.

SSMMS/SMMMS/SMMS/SMS BREATHABLE Non-Woven Fabric

Outer layer - Spun bond polypropylene material that is cloth-like, yet tough and abrasion-resistant Middle layer - Intricate melt-blown polypropylene microfibers that filter out many liquids. It's a 3-5 layer composite Nonwoven where tha melt blown layers on the inside of the "sandwich" are intricate webs of micro-fibre's that help filter out many water besed chemicals and dry particulates to give the fabric it's protective properties. SigShieldTM uses these highly breathable fabrics for their type 5/6 coverall and AAMI level 2 & 3 Isolation gowns. The fabrics used in the SigShieldTM protective apparel range vary between 25 - 64 GSM depending on the application and the level of desired protection, they offer the right balance between comfort and protection. Various finishes like alcohol repellence, anti-static and hydrophobic coatings are optionally available for the different applications. They are made in a state of an art German plant specifically for the Medical and Hygiene Industry. The SMMMS & SSMMS fabric we use, passes IS016603 and IS016604 standard of blood penetration and viral penetration apart from ISO 22612-2005 and ISO 22610-2006 dry and wet bacterial penetration testing respectively. At SigShieldTM we understand all requirements are not the same and several customer have to consider a fabric which offers the right balance between protection, price and comfort depending upon the need of the user.

MICROPOROUS LAMINATES

Laminated fabrics offer a greater protection from chemicals than SMS, SMMS, SMMMS & SSMMS but offer lesser breathability. SigShieldTM uses the latest in microporous film technology for their type 4 coveralls and AAMI level 4 isolation gowns. Microporous Laminated fabric is typically made from a spunbonded polypropylene fabric and bond-ing that with a PE microporous film. The micropore size is smaller than a water drop and larger than moisture vapor to hold out liquid and blood. There are typically billions of micro pores in Microporous laminates used in the SigShieldTM is 63 GSM. Typical range for MVTR (Moisture Vapour Transmission Rate) is 2000g/m2/day. This fabric passes the stringent IS016603, IS016604, ASTM 1670 & ASTM1671 for Synthetic blood penetration and Viral Penetration apart from ISO 22612-2005 and ISO 22610-2006 wet and dry penetration testing.
